JAMES “MUNKY” SHAFFER ANNOUNCES NEW PROJECT – FEAR AND THE NERVOUS SYSTEM…NEW ALBUM DUE AUGUST 8!!!
KoRn guitarist James ‘Munky’ Shaffer announces plans to release a new project entitled FEAR AND THE NERVOUS SYSTEM due out August 8, 2008. The record will be released on his own label, EMOTIONAL SYPHON RECORDINGS.
The band features James Christian Shaffer (“Munky”) on guitars and vocals; Billy Gould (Faith No More), bass; Wes Borland (Black Light Burns), guitars; Brooks Wackerman (Bad Religion, Tenacious D), drums and percussion; Leopold Ross (IO Echo), programming and guitars; Zach Baird (KorRn), keyboards and programming. The album will be produced by Shaffer, Ross, and Jim Monti, with additional production by Tim Harkins and Danny Lohner (NIN, Black Light Burns)
Famed producer Ross Robinson (Slipknot, KoRn) comments: “What can I do to ever come close to feeling James’s level of pure ruthless courage through a guitar? Since I’ve worked with him, I've tried to inspire, convince, beg, bleed, cry, prod and nearly die, hoping to hit that bar with others. I'm grateful to know what ‘it’ is, and where it always exists—in my brother, James. His solo band? Yes, please!”
The songs are being recorded at Music Grinder Studios in Hollywood, CA, with Jim Monti handling the mixing duties. Fear and The Nervous System is an exciting project that opens up the boundaries of rock, harkening back to the days when music was fearless. 8.30.07: Update from Munky
Whatsup everybody?
So the Family Values tour is winding down now, and this is our last week. Tomorrow, we’re playin the big hometown show in Bakersfield. It’s always cool going back home and throw down where it all began. I’m sure it’s going to be great because every show on this tour has kicked ass. We finish up the Family Values tour Sunday in Irvine, but we’ll be back on the road at the end of September playing a bunch of places we missed. Also my boys in Droid will be back again for the ride!
Now, Droid has been fucking killing it every night of this tour. They started off opening up the main stage, but now they’re headlining the second stage. It’s been awesome for them, because there’s so much energy, and their songs just set the crowd off. Their so raw, and the kids just go nuts with some crazy pits!
Droid is one of the reasons that I started this label. Me and Jamie from Droid have been friends for a long time. Back when Korn was living in Long Beach before we got signed, I met Jamie. He was just a kid back then, but we instantly clicked. I started giving him guitar lessons, and we became really tight. Back then we’d cruise around Long Beach, hit up local spots and just kick it. I helped him learn guitar early on, and he’s become such an awesome player. He’s also been with me and Korn since the beginning. He was there as a friend and supporter from before we were signed up until now. So it’s awesome to be touring with him like this.
Once Jamie played me the Droid demos for this new record, I was floored. He helped inspire me to move forward with Emotional Syphon. The day I got the paperwork to start this label, I saw Droid at the Whisky in LA, and right after we all hit the Rainbow, and I told the band that I wanted to sign them. They were so good live, and I knew that I had to do this. I helped executive produce the album at the KoRn studio in Hollywood, and we got our homey Chino from Deftones to sing on “Vengeance is Mine.” The album came out fucking killer! It’s one of the most honest, real and brutal metal albums that I’ve heard in a long time. They’ve stepped up with a record that I think heavy music needs right now.
So be sure to check out Droid’s debut, and don’t miss them on the road with Korn all fall. Also, I’ll be signing with them at the Emotional Syphon Recordings booth on the last few days of the Family Values tour, come by and kick it!
Until then Rock on,
Munky
